A striking Victorian-era wide band ring, modeled in 18k rosy yellow gold, whose face is a pair of sailor’s reef knots, laid one atop the other. These lovely, sinuous knots are each “tied” using pairs of gold wires, and these wires come together in a stack of four to form the ring shank. They are decoratively bound, with vertical straps, at the ring’s shoulders. Knot motifs from this era symbolized loyalty, fidelity, and the strength of a bond. This ring is fully hallmarked for Sheffield, and the year 1855.
